ALIVE AND KICKING Amy Cooper is a true triple-threat talent. She can sing, she can write, and she is an incredible guitarist. She is also standing ins stride with the indie female singers of the early 90’s. It’s a sound you don’t even realize you miss until you hear it again, and hear it being done this well. Amy can sing high and pretty, but she is at her best when she is singing low and gritty. She blends sultriness with innocence, self- assuredness with vulnerability and delivers it all through haunting intricate melodies. Sonically the EP is akin to Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville. It’s edgy, honest and euphoric. Each song is a perfect indie-rock treat and as the title suggests, quite introspective. “ 25” a one-verse song about coming to terms with turning 25, delivers true and strong, and actually manages to do it in under a minute. Much like that song, the rest of Mirrors is direct, welcoming and over too soon.
